It's been a blitz of a holiday season, and I'm amazed at how the time has flown by. The last few days have been a blur of packing, sorting, organizing, and more packing. And, most importantly, trying to fit in as much time with my wife and children before departing.
It's now 11:00 PM, and as the first real snow of winter settles in on Golden, I'm finishing up loading duffle bags and Pelican cases. Tomorrow, as the year turns to 2011, I'll be in the air, en route to Punta Arenas, Chile.
From there, it's anyone's guess as to how the fickle Antarctic weather will treat us. Well, we know it'll be cold, but other than that, our departure from Punta for the ice is a moving target. But, if all goes well, we'll fly to Patriot Hills on the 4th, and out to Vinson Massif a couple of days later.
We've got a great team going down for a fun adventure: Peter Whittaker, Ed Viesturs, Seth Waterfall, Caroline George, and I will be representing the First Ascent team. In addition to climbing and guiding, I'll also be there to photograph the expedition. My good friend, Kent Harvey, will be along, too, with his amazing cinematic skills. And, finally, we'll be sharing the trip with three clients. I haven't met any of them, but have heard good things.
Anyway, along with climbing Vinson, we're planning on some other adventures. And, I'll be attempting to dispatch every day to the First Ascent blog, so please tune in and follow along! I'll post here, too, as much as possible.
